Getting something framed can feel quite intimidating - fancy gold veneers staring you down from the framer's window display and staff that won't give you time of day if you aren't ready to drain your savings to frame your precious piece. At BSMT we are determined to make everyone welcome and work with you step by step so you feel like a part of the whole process! We're a gallery as well as a framing studio, which means we take the craft seriously and care about what ends up on your wall. If you decide to choose us, here is a step by step of the journey that you and your piece will embark on with us :)
1.Bring your piece in
The best way to start is to come into the gallery. You can't really know what a frame will look like until you hold it against the work - and in ten years of framing, we've seen countless clients change their mind the moment they see the options together!
Can't make it in? Send us a photo and the dimensions and we'll put together options and a quote. WhatsApp works too: 07944857747.
2.The consultation
This is where we look at the work together. We'll ask a few straightforward questions: what style of mouldings do you like? Where is this going to hang? Would you like a box frame, a window mount, an edge to edge option? Don't worry if you don't know what any of this means - we are happy to explain and show some examples! We'll pull out relevant mouldings, mount board samples and glazing options and talk through the options honestly.
A lot of clients ask about a rough quote without bringing the pieces in - please keep in mind that the amounts are highly dependant on the moulding and the mounting method you choose :) That is why we always recommend bringing the pieces in!
3.Mounting
The two main choices are float mounting - where the artwork appears to hover over the backing, ideal for prints with deckled edges - and window mounting, where a cut board sits over the edge of the artwork. For most street art and limited edition prints, float mounting is the right call. For canvases and three-dimensional pieces, tray framing or box framing is usually more appropriate!
Exciting part about this is that we also offer coloured and and painted fillets if you choose to frame it in a box frame - making the frame even more customisable!
All framing uses acid-free, archival-quality mount boards and backing throughout. Acid-free board is placed between the print and the rear of the frame to prevent any chemical transfer, and the process is fully reversible, making it the correct choice for originals, limited editions and rare or valuable works.

4.Glazing
For anything you care about, UV-protective glazing is worth the small additional cost. UV light is the primary cause of print fading and colour degradation over time. Museum-grade anti-reflective UV glass gives you both: maximum UV protection and no surface glare. We'll advise on the right option for your specific piece.
5.Turnaround
We treat framing as a craft so we want to ensure that each piece is treated with precision and care. That is why we give ourselves a standard turnaround of around 14 working days. However, rush orders can be arranged for an additional charge - ask us when you come in!
If you are ready to get the process started come and see us at 529 Kingsland Road, Dalston Or drop us a message at hello@bsmt.co.uk. We can't wait to see what pieces we get to frame next !
