SHADOW FLOAT MOUNTING

Shadow float mounting is one of the most popular framing choices for limited edition prints, original artworks and pieces with deckled or torn edges. The technique suspends your artwork within the frame, creating a subtle shadow that adds depth and draws the eye directly to the work.

At BSMT we use archival foam core mounts and acid-free, conservation-quality materials throughout, ensuring your artwork is protected for the long term without any risk of chemical transfer or damage.

For prints with deckled edges, float mounting is the recommended approach, as it allows the full edge of the paper to remain visible. We also offer bespoke fillets in a range of colours, allowing you to pick up a tone directly from your artwork and carry it through to the inner edge of the frame.

WINDOW MOUNTING

Window mounting is a traditional and versatile framing method, well suited to photography, fine art prints and works on paper. A precisely cut mount board creates a clean border around your artwork, while also raising the glazing away from the surface, an important protection against condensation damage and ink transfer over time.

At BSMT we use acid-free, white-core mount boards as standard. The bevelled cut exposes a crisp white edge where the board meets the artwork, giving the finished piece a clean, gallery-quality finish regardless of the board colour chosen. We have a wide range of mount board colours and can advise on what works best for your specific piece.

ACRYLIC BOX FRAMING

Acrylic box framing - also known as Perspex framing, is a bold, contemporary alternative to traditional picture framing and one of our most distinctive offerings at BSMT.

Your artwork is encased within a clear-faced acrylic box frame with neon-coloured sides, creating a striking, gallery-quality presentation that commands attention on any wall.

The neon sides are the signature of this framing style, vibrant and particularly effective for street art, limited edition prints and original works where visual impact is everything. The clean lines and high-gloss finish amplify the work rather than frame it in the conventional sense.

At BSMT we can advise on the right neon colour for your piece — whether that's a shade that echoes the artwork itself or a deliberate contrast that makes it pop.

TRAY FRAMING

Tray framing is the preferred choice for canvases and paintings on board. Unlike other framing methods it uses no glass, allowing the texture and surface of the artwork to remain fully visible and unobscured.

The frame sits around the artwork like a tray, with a deliberate gap between the inner edge of the frame and the canvas itself. This creates a floating appearance that draws the eye to the work without the frame competing for attention. Depending on the piece, the tray can sit tight to the artwork for a clean, contemporary finish, or set back to expose the full depth of the canvas sides. This is a popular choice for deep-edge canvases where the painted edges are part of the work.

At BSMT we can advise on the right depth and finish for your canvas or board. Tray framing done well is one of the most elegant ways to present an original painting.

Box construction is built into every framing option we offer. A box frame ensures the glazing never touches the surface of the artwork, eliminating the risk of ink transfer and condensation damage over time. This is particularly important for limited edition prints, original artworks and works on paper.

For glazing we offer standard float glass as default, and are happy to discuss Art Glass for clients who want superior clarity. Art Glass carries a high-quality anti-reflective coating that reduces glare and is especially effective for artworks with darker backgrounds or strong colour contrasts.

All framing uses acid-free, archival-quality mount boards and backing throughout. Acid-free board is placed between the print and the rear of the frame to prevent any chemical transfer, and the process is fully reversible, making it the correct choice for originals, limited editions and rare or valuable works.

Every material we use is sustainable and conservation-grade, ensuring your artwork is protected and beautifully presented for the long term.
