MAGDA ARCHER

Magda Archer is a London-based artist renowned for her colourful, nostalgic paintings paired with raw, witty, and often disarmingly honest phrases. Her work balances sweetness and satire, presenting a cynical outlook on life in a way that is both playful and deeply authentic. Blending kitschy imagery with sharp humour, Archer’s pieces often feel like conversation starters - wholesome, cheeky, and quietly subversive.

Magda studied at Ravensbourne College of Art, Chelsea School of Art, and the Royal College of Art before co-founding the illustration duo Archer/Quinell in 1988, which gained both critical and commercial acclaim throughout the 1990s. Since her first solo exhibition Crazy Mad at The Cornerhouse, Manchester in 2011, her work has been exhibited widely across the UK and internationally. Notable exhibitions include Peter Blake: About Collage at Tate Liverpool and her breakthrough show #givemeeverythingandnothingbaby, presented at HOME, Manchester and Chapter Arts, Cardiff in 2015.

Her practice extends beyond the gallery. Her bold public posters for Flying Leaps have become recognisable landmarks within London’s urban landscape, and she has collaborated globally with major fashion houses and brands, including Marc Jacobs, Comme des Garçons, Jenny Packham, and Blue Q.

Magda's work is part of our current group show 'Happy Place', an exhibition that brings together artists working across print and text-based media, exploring how positive language can shape the way we feel, think, and connect with one another.
