BARE THREAD
SOLO EXHIBITION BY PERSPICERE
MAY 25TH - JUNE 11TH 2023
BARE THREAD
‘Bare thread’, the captivating new exhibition by thread artist Perspicere explores the complex interplay between vulnerability, fear, and self-discovery.
By wrapping thread around nails in the way that a line drawing might be made without taking the pen off the paper, he creates these unique artworks by using lengths of unbroken sewing thread. Beginning as a single line, the work then evolves into a complex, crisscrossed piece of art composed from as much as 12 kilometres of thread.
Through the use of dream-like imagery and blindfolds, Perspicere’s portraits are depicted as being shielded from reality, hiding from their deepest fears and desires. The poetic nature of the images conjures a sense of uncertainty and introspection, as viewers navigate the struggles of these individuals, grappling with the existential quandaries of life and death.
Truly breathtaking and thought-provoking, ‘Bare Thread’ is an exhibition that deftly weaves together themes of vulnerability, courage, and the human condition. The show will feature a collection of new format works, created from intricately layered, coloured string. For this exhibition Perspicere has also experimented with breaking free of the confines of the canvas, with the works expanding beyond the edges to connect with each other in the space ‘in between’.
